Biography

Mrs. Purwin Ryan is a partner in our Philadelphia office.  Mrs. Ryan's areas of concentration include life science litigation, products liability, food contamination, cyber security and medical malpractice litigation.  She serves as counsel in several state and federal mass tort litigations representing manufacturers and distributors of pharmaceuticals, medical publishers, clinical trial companies, cardiac devices, prosthetics, generic drugs, hip and knee implants, plasma and blood related products and treatments, defibrillators, cosmetic skin lasers, vision devices, surgical mesh, bone screws, morcellators and various surgical devices.

Mrs. Ryan also focuses her practice on the litigation of professional liability matters where she represents health care systems, hospitals, physicians, nurses, dentists and other health care providers in complex cases involving catastrophic injuries.  She serves as national counsel for domestic and international companies. 

Mrs. Purwin Ryan is the co-chair of the Information Privacy and Data Security Team.  Clients in the healthcare sector and other industries have become concerned about cybersecurity and privacy issues, breach preparedness and response.  Mrs. Ryan counsels clients on development of risk assessment policies, vendor agreement analysis and implementation of data privacy practices.  She also aids clients in incident response planning, including table top exercises, assessment of regulator compliance requirements and inquiries from regulators on both the state and federal levels.

Mrs. Ryan is an active member of the American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute and the American Health Lawyers Association.

A graduate of Georgetown University, Mrs. Ryan received a Bachelor's Degree in Health Studies/Pre-Med.  Subsequently, she earned her Juris Doctorate from Villanova University School of Law.  Mrs. Ryan also received an LL.M. in Taxation from Villanova University.

She is admitted to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey and the U.S. Tax Court.
