The case involved a patient who presented to the ER with a history of pancytopenia. Platelet count was 4,000 in the ER. At the time of discharge from the ER, the ER doctor called the patient's pediatrician. There was a factual dispute about what was discussed during the call. The patient was then discharged from the ER without a blood transfusion, and suffered an intracranial hemorrhage that night.
