Benjamin A. Leonard

Benjamin A. Leonard is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Atlanta office.  He focuses his practice primarily on defending employers and insurers under the Georgia Workers’ Compensation Act (Title 34).  Mr. Leonard is an experienced trial attorney and has litigated well over 100 claims to resolution in Georgia courts across the state, including matters before the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia.  He is also one of a handful of Georgia practitioners who has been trained and certified in Medicare Set Aside allocation and implementation.

As a member of the Georgia Bar Association, Mr. Leonard has served on the Executive Council for the Workers’ Compensation Section.  He is also a member of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA) and the National Retail & Restaurant Defense Association (NRRDA).  Mr. Leonard previously served on the Steering Committee of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation at the request of the Georgia Chairman of the State Board.  Mr. Leonard has also served as President of the Atlanta Bar Association Workers’ Compensation section.

Mr. Leonard has been elected by his peers as a fellow of The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, an organization that honors workers’ compensation plaintiff’s attorneys, defense attorneys, professors, and judges nationally as distinguished members of the workers’ compensation legal community.  He represents the state of Georgia as the sole defense attorney elected to the Class of 2023.

Mr. Leonard received B.A. degrees in Political Science (1995) and History (1996) from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and was a four-time letterman on the Cross-Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track teams.  He received his J.D. from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 2000.  While in law school, Mr. Leonard served on the Board of Governors and as a student editor of the Journal of Southern Legal History.  He also served as Head coach of the Mercer University Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country teams.

Mr. Leonard and his family reside in Milton, Georgia and are active in community charity work including the Atlanta Circle for Children, Wounded Warriors, and Fulton County Homeless Pets.
