Joseph (Jody) D. Shelby is Of Counsel in the firm's Lancaster office. With over three decades of litigation experience, he concentrates his practice in labor and employment matters, including litigation of such matters in all venues.

In his employment law practice, Mr. Shelby has extensive experience handling claims of employment discrimination and wrongful discharge.  He has represented clients in matters related to ADA, ADEA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, collective actions, class actions and other employment/human Resources related legal issues.  This experience includes representing clients in both bench and jury trials.  Mr. Shelby has also tried Special, Preliminary and Permanent Injunction cases involving restrictive covenants, including but not limited to, non-competition, non-solicitation and corporate “raiding” cases. 

In his traditional labor law practice, Mr. Shelby has handled numerous grievance arbitrations, as well as interest arbitrations.  He has litigated False Claims Act cases under the Davis-Bacon Act and numerous Prevailing Wage Act cases.  Mr. Shelby is counsel to a number of employers with Collective Bargaining Agreements and has negotiated Agreements with the Teamsters, Steelworkers, Teachers Unions and other organized labor.

A firm believer in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration, Mr. Shelby has worked with clients to resolve legal matters outside of the courtroom.  In addition, he focuses on proactive client counseling so his clients can run an efficient, law-abiding workplace in order to keep his clients from ever experiencing the litigation process.

Mr. Shelby is licensed practice in Pennsylvania, as well as a U. S. District Courts for the Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia; and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal, Fourth and Third Circuits.  He is licensed to practice in the United States Supreme Court.  He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Lancaster County Bar Associations.

Mr. Shelby received his B. A., magna cum laude, from Gettysburg College in 1990 where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1993 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.
