David M. Adkins is Of Counsel in the firm’s Charleston office.  He focuses his practice on litigation defense matters including commercial, premises liability, product liability, employment, transportation and insurance coverage issues.

Mr. Adkins began his legal career as General Counsel for the Employee Relations/Risk Management Section of the West Virginia Department of Health & Human Resources and advised his employer on legal issues related to various types of discrimination, sexual harassment and other employment related topics before transitioning to private practice in 2005.

Mr. Adkins spent the next few years of his legal career working as an insurance defense attorney in West Virginia, representing the interests of insured individuals and businesses in various types of cases, before opening his own office in Putnam County in 2010, primarily handling employment and personal injury cases.  In addition to handling cases, Mr. Adkins also served as Counsel for the West Virginia Senate Finance Committee and as a Mediator for the Putnam County Family Court during his tenure.  In 2014, Mr. Adkins was selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for his excellence in handling employment-related litigation matters.  Mr. Adkins has also been a frequent lecturer on a variety of insurance and employment related seminars throughout West Virginia.

Mr. Adkins is admitted to practice in West Virginia, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

He received his B.A. in Political Science/History, summa cum laude, from Alderson-Broaddus College in 1996.  He received his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1999 and was a member of the Moot Court Board and M.E. Lugar Trial Association.

A lifelong resident of West Virginia, he currently lives in Scott Depot, West Virginia with his wife Christina, his daughter Olivia and their Pug, Sirius Black.  Mr. Adkins is an active member of the community and enjoys golf, white water rafting and is currently on a quest to attend a baseball game in every MLB park.
